On Thursday, November 15, 2018, Mental Health California™ will present an elegant evening of recognition of achievements in mental health and wellness amongst industry leadership in California. Award recipients will have demonstrated success in helping to resolve complex community mental health concerns through advocacy, research, public policy, outreach, clinical work, county administration, or direct services. An hour-long dinner social will precede the awards ceremony. We will have guest speakers, video presentations, and excellent entertainment throughout the event.
Guest speakers include award-winning Hollywood film producer and screenwriter Sterling Anderson; Cassaundra Cochron, Director of the TLCS Triage Navigator Program; David Woods Bartley, a well-known and dynamic speaker, storyteller, and trainer with lived experience; and Captain Ernie Daniels (ret.), Chair of the Board of Trustees of Highlands Community Charter School.
This year’s honorees are Dr. Richard Pan, State Senator, California's 6th Senate District for the “Legislator of the Year Award”; Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at the School of Medicine at the University of California at Davis, and Founding Director of the UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities for the “Research & Health Disparities Award”; and Yvonnia Brown, MSW, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Director/Deputy Public Guardian/Conservator, Merced County Department of Behavioral Health for the “County Behavioral Health Leadership Award”.
We have invited the legendary "Queen of Funk", Patryce “Choc’Let” Banks, and her band, STR8 Funk, to perform at this year’s awards dinner. Ms. Banks carved her niche as the former female lead singer of the chart topping “Graham Central Station,” featuring Larry Graham (former bass player for Sly and the Family Stone). Having played every major venue in the U.S. and Europe, she appeared regularly on TV including “Soul Train,” “Rock Concert,” and “Midnite Special” earning gold record and Grammy nominations along the way. She has collaborated with artists such as B.B. King, Stephanie Mills, Chaka Kahn, Wayne Henderson and the Crusaders, and Ronnie Laws, among many others. STR8 Funk is the hottest funk band in Los Angeles and beyond, and they give a thrilling performance that our audience is sure to love. See additional, exciting performances by the Harley White, Jr. Trio, Mr. Shaun Munday, Mr. Robert Vann (tenor), and Ms. Arielle Birdsong.
Co-hosted by radio personality Leon Guidry, the voice of the “smooth vibe” on KDEE 97.5 FM, our event is filled with appreciation for the work being done in mental health, emotion and real stories of hope, great food, wine, and dessert, and excellent entertainment throughout. We thank you for your interest and consideration of supporting our charity awards dinner. Proceeds from the event will support our training, education, and community outreach programs. We invite you to help create a dynamic opportunity for sharing of a common cause to which we are all connected.
